About Lighting Flash English Setters
It all started in 1974.
An Interview with Styles Bridges-Owner/Trainer of Lighting Flash English Setters.
In 1974, I bought my first English Setter from Doctor David Gorman, Malone, NY. Dave was an avid field trialer and became my mentor. From that time forward, I was smitten with "longhairs". My first setters hunted and ran in small amateur field trials. Bitten by the field trial bug, I began to focus more on developing a setter that could compete on the major Northeast field trial circuit. Lightning Flash Setters were established, and the kennel consisted primarily of female English setters that were vigorously campaigned. The Lightning Flash Setter females began to be in high demand as brood bitches to owners of winning stud dogs. A tradition of winning "long hairs" began.
In the late 1970's, to the mid 1980's, Lightning Flash Setters won on a national stage from the grouse woods of the North to the bean fields of the South. We were fortunate to develop a line of English Setters that could both hunt for recreation and win in national field trials.
I took a hiatus from the bird dog community for a few years, but in 1999, I was approached by Grouse Ridge Kennel owners to help them train their young setters. From that year until 2012, we started most of Grouse Ridge Kennel's young dogs at our kennel until they were returned to the field trial circuit. Some of the notable Grouse Ridge Setters that started with us are Champion Grouse Ridge Digit, Champion Grouse Ridge Lucky, Runner Up Champion Grouse Ridge Bruiser, Grouse Ridge Sarge, Grouse Ridge Pitch, and many more in addition to the aforementioned.
Today, we're focusing solely on producing family hunting dogs. We are utilizing forty years experience to develop started English Setters that will not only hunt but will become loving, well-behaved household members.
"I have known Styles since the early 70's. We trained and competed from that period of time to the present. His Lightning Flash Setters always posed a threat in any competition for years."

A little more about who we are
Styles Bridges founded Lightning Flash English setters in 1974. Since that time he has compiled hundreds of wins on the Field Trial circuit. Retired from trialing- Bridges's only focus is on developing bird dogs-for the field and home.
Joe and Styles have been friends for thirty years. Together, they combine as a dynamic team for training bird dogs. Years ago Joe gradually got into training bird dogs, as his daughter begged him to take home one of MRK's English Setter puppies. Joe and Styles train together daily.
Assistant Trainer (To Grandpa)
Hunter is the Grandson of Styles Bridges. From the moment he was born-Hunter's setter "Butch" has been at his side. He caught the dog training bug at the early age. At five years of age he can regularly be seen training with Grandpa and his Uncle Joe.
Frank has been the backbone of the management side of Maple Ridge Kennels. Anyone who meets Frank- immediately understands that he has a graceful way of caring for every dog at Maple Ridge Kennels.
"I treat every dog as if they are my own."
